National marine and freshwater wananga

Wananga Banner for Facebook 2020 m2

With the evolving situation with COVID-19 we are making the difficult decision to postpone our Mountains to Sea Wānanga until the term 3/4 school holidays - with the exact dates TBC.

We have taken direction from the marae committee that they will be closing Harataunga marae from outside visitors to protect their isolated community and elders. The risk factors are too high with having people from around NZ congregating and staying in close quarters.

We will be in contact within the next 4 weeks with proposed dates for the start of next spring once we have more certainty about the spread of COVID-19.
For those who have paid their registration fee for the wananga, you will be refunded in due course.

The wananga objectives are to:
  • Provide a forum for marine and freshwater educators to network about education for sustainability initiatives & projects. (School and/or community based).
  • To provide professional development
  • To provide a forum to discuss ideas on how we can foster and take more action for marine and freshwater conservation.
  • Ensure strong delivery of the Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) and Whitebait Connection (WBC) concepts around New Zealand.
