Tasman Bay Guardians (TBG) are the Nelson/Tasman regional providers for the Whitebait Connection. TBG are passionate about the importance of connecting our young people to their local environment through education and experience. We know that children who are more connected to their environment have a greater likelihood of looking after it in the future. Our goal is that every school in Te Tau Ihu (Nelson/Tasman) has the opportunity to participate in the Experiencing Marine Reserves and/or Whitebait Connection programmes.
Tasman Bay Guardians is also the regional hub for the sustainable Coastlines Beach "litter intelligence" project, we facilitate beach clean ups, we generate donations towards tree plantings through the Abel Tasman Tree Collective. The director Stew Robertson represents the Guardians on the Nelson Biodiversity Forum, is part of the development of the Tasman Bio-strategy, has participated in the NZ biodiversity strategy marine focus group and the Sustainable Seas Science Challenge. Stew is also working with mana whenua on a reef restoration project and runs Abel Tasman Eco Tours with Helen Forsey (TBG's Manager)
